Candidate Sign-Up Form*
Thank you for your interest in Wolf Ridge Ski Resort's National Ski Patrol candidate program. Congratulations! You've already completed the first step in becoming a patroller; showing interest. The second requirement will be completing the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) program. (You MUST ski with a qualified National Ski Patrol instructor at Wolf Ridge BEFORE entering into the OEC program!) If you pass the OEC test, you become an official candidate. You will meet with the candidate training officer in December to start your skiing and toboggan handling instruction.
Traditionally, patrol candidates meet in the evenings, during the spring/summer, twice a week for three hours each session. Some Saturdays or Sundays will be scheduled for additional OEC training days. As this is a condensed, intense medical training course, you are encouraged to attend every session.
You will need to bring the current edition of the OEC textbook. As the medical training course advances, you will be asked to purchase specific medical supplies to stock your vest, backpack or belt pack. (A list is in the appendix of the OEC book.) This is the only time you will have to purchase supplies. After you stock your pack the first time, you will have access to the patrol's supply inventory.
Upon completion of the OEC course, and passing the written and practical exams, you will be considered an official candidate. Obviously, your training is not over yet. During the ski season, you will be expected to attend Saturday training sessions, and every prearranged instruction session. You will learn advanced skiing techniques and toboggan handling. These training sessions prepare you for the Basic Patroller evaluation at the end of the season.
As you can see, this is a serious time commitment for both the candidate and the instructors. If you put forth the effort in both medical training, and on the hill training, you will have a deep sense of accomplishment and pride knowing how hard you worked to become a National Ski Patrol member.
If you have more questions click on the "About Us" link, then click "Patrol Representative." Or, bring your questions to the first day of training. We will run through all the requirements and expectations we hold for the candidates.
Still interested? Please complete the below form in its entirety so that we may contact you next season. We accept candidates every year starting in the spring.
